10 Designer and Front-end Developer Resources // 5.9.09

As years go by, I collect more and more resources that I bookmark and refer back to for ideas, inspiration, reference, or in search of new information. Everything from a number of site that post great articles about best practices, or others who post lists of resources. Here are a few that have been most beneficial to me;

1. A List Apart | http://www.alistapart.com
A great resource for design strategy and proper ways to code in HTML and CSS to meet design standards and increase efficiency as well as cross-browser compatibility.

2. Kirupa | http://www.kirupa.com/
Kirupa is a Flash resource that lists lots of great tutorials, and also has some of the most visited and helpful forums for actionscript I have found. Every question I have posted in a forum on Kirupa has been answered within a few hours.

3. gotoAndLearn() | http://www.gotoandlearn.com/
Lee Brimlow posts video tutorials in which he uses Flash, Flex, and AIR to show off some of the coolest new stuff on the web. He offers the source files for you to download and test for yourself, and a forum to discuss questions you may have. A great resource for furthering your Flash knowledge.

4. W3Schools | http://www.w3schools.com
A great learning source for a number of different languages. Tutorials, references, examples and lots of other helpful elements, W3 offers lots of very straight forward content to help you use proper syntax and understand it’s parameters.

5. W3C Markup Validation | http://validator.w3.org
This one is a bit of a given, but a source a number of developers overlook, markup validity. W3C also offers validation for CSS and RSS among other things.

6. IE NetRender | http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer
Many people who do freelance front-end development don’t have the resources to easily do cross-browser checking. IE NetRender is an easy and helpful tool that will take screenshots of your site in a variety of browsers to allow you to see format errors.

7. Brands of the World | http://www.brandsoftheworld.com
A huge collection of famous brand logos in vector format.

8. Color Scheme Designer | http://colorschemedesigner.com
A color source to help you preview color schemes and use nice web color combos. Color Scheme Designer uses hex colors, and allows you to copy color schemes you like for easy use in your CSS.

9. Noupe | http://www.noupe.com
Noupe supplies info for designers and web-developers on all subjects of design, ranging from; CSS, Ajax, Javascript, web design, graphics, typography, advertising & much more.

10. WebDesignerWall | http://www.webdesignerwall.com
Great resource for tutorials and inspiration.

I know where are tons of resources I am missing here that people use daily, post the ones you use in your comments and share.
